Big Changes to the British Airways Executive Club
Hey there, Jet setters! If you’re like me and love the thrill of jetting off to new destinations (or even revisiting your favorite ones), there’s a good chance you’re a loyal fan of British Airways. As someone who’s been a member of the British Airways Executive Club for years, I’m always on the lookout for updates that make my frequent flyer experience even better. Well, buckle up because 2025 is bringing some transformations to the way we earn and enjoy British Airways miles, known as Avios!
From big shifts in earning Tier Points to new benefits for booking through British Airways Holidays, let’s dive into everything you need to know about these changes and how to make the most of your travels.
The Rebrand: British Airways Executive Club to British Airways Club
First up, say goodbye to the British Airways Executive Club as we know it! Starting April 1, 2025, the program will rebrand as the British Airways Club. Don’t worry – it’s not just a name change. The shift aligns with a major overhaul of how Tier Points are earned. Rather than earning based solely on the type of flight, Tier Points will now be tied directly to the amount you spend on flights and extras.
This change includes ancillary expenses like seat selection and excess baggage, giving you more opportunities to rack up points. Essentially, you’ll now earn one Tier Point for every £1 spent on eligible expenses. That’s right – every little extra adds up, so it’s worth keeping an eye on your spending.
New Tier Thresholds
If you’re aiming to climb the ranks of the British Airways frequent flyer program, you’ll need to adjust your goals. The thresholds for reaching Bronze, Silver, and Gold statuses are getting a big makeover:
Bronze Status: 3,500 Tier Points (previously 300)
Silver Status: 7,500 Tier Points (previously 600)
Gold Status: 20,000 Tier Points (previously 1,500)
And if you’re aiming for the ultra-elite Gold Guest List? That’ll take 65,000 Tier Points, with at least 52,000 earned through BA-marketed flights, add-ons, or holiday packages. Retaining this status requires 40,000 Tier Points, with 32,000 from BA-marketed spend.
Yes, those numbers are significantly higher, but the new earning model makes it only possible to achieve if you’re booking high-value flights or packages.
Avios Earnings Get a Boost
If you’ve been wondering about British Airways Avios, here’s the details. The airline’s switch to money-based Avios earning (first introduced in 2023) will remain in place, but it’s expanding. Now, you can collect Avios not only on flights but also on ancillary purchases, such as seat upgrades and even contributions to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
Yes, you read that right – choosing eco-friendly travel options will now earn you up to 1,000 Tier Points annually.
Limitless Tier Points for British Airways Holidays Packages
One of my favorite changes is the introduction of the “Limitless Tier Points” system for British Airways Holidays packages. Previously, double Tier Points promotions were a seasonal treat. Now, it’s a permanent feature. When you book a holiday package with BA, you’ll earn Tier Points based on the total package price – with no cap!
Imagine jetting off to a sun-soaked destination, indulging in a luxurious stay, and seeing your Tier Points soar. This change makes holiday packages an even better deal for British Airways frequent flyers.
Exciting Milestone Moments
To keep things interesting, British Airways is also introducing milestone rewards between tiers. These “milestone moments” come with gifts of bonus Avios:
2,500 bonus Avios at the first milestone
4,000 bonus Avios at the second
5,000 bonus Avios at the third
More details are set to roll out soon, but it’s safe to say these rewards will make reaching the next tier even sweeter. Think of it as little celebrations along the way to your next status level.
Bonus Tier Points Offer
If you’re eager to maximize your earnings before April, take advantage of British Airways’ limited-time bonus Tier Points offer. Book flights by February 14, 2025, for travel after April 1, and you’ll score extra points:
50 bonus Tier Points for Euro Traveller
70 for World Traveller
100 for Club Europe
140 for World Traveller Plus
210 for Club World
330 for First
If you’ve been dreaming of an upgrade to British Airways Club World or First, now’s the time to make it happen.
Checking Your British Airways Flight Status and Tier Progress
As these changes roll out, staying on top of your British Airways flight status and Tier Point balance is more important than ever. Don’t forget to log into your British Airways Executive Club login regularly to track your progress. The updated system will align all Tier Point collection periods from April 1 to March 31 annually, so you can plan your travel strategy accordingly.
More Perks for British Airways American Express Cardmembers
Good news for those who love earning points through everyday spending! Later in 2025, British Airways American Express Premium Plus cardmembers will be able to earn up to 2,500 Tier Points through card expenditures. It’s another way to climb the status ladder without having to take extra flights.
Final Thoughts: Making the Most of the British Airways Club
Change can be daunting, but these updates are designed to make your loyalty with British Airways even more rewarding. Whether you’re a frequent flyer racking up British Airways miles for business trips or planning your next big holiday, the revamped British Airways Club is packed with opportunities to maximize your benefits.
So, what’s your next move?
