Who Owns Riyadh Air?

Riyadh Air is fully owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s economic transformation strategy under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The airline is positioned to compete with Gulf heavyweights like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, driving Saudi Arabia's ambitions to diversify its economy beyond oil and attract global tourism and business.

Riyadh Air's Fleet: Cutting-Edge and Diverse

Riyadh Air has already made headlines with a monumental order of 39 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with an option for 33 more. These aircraft will form the backbone of its long-haul fleet, promising state-of-the-art technology, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort.

For shorter and medium-haul routes, Riyadh Air has secured 60 Airbus A321 neo family aircraft, with plans to include the A321LR and XLR variants. These models will feature lie-flat business-class seats, catering to premium travelers on regional routes. Additionally, Riyadh Air is expected to place an order for Airbus A350-1000 or Boeing 777X aircraft to further expand its long-haul capabilities.

The airline has also leased a Boeing 787 from Oman Air, which will be used for crew training, charter flights, and standby operations. This leased aircraft, however, will not feature Riyadh Air's proprietary cabin design.

Riyadh Air’s Business Class: The Mercedes-Maybach of the Skies

Riyadh Air’s CEO, Tony Douglas, has promised a business-class experience that rivals first-class on other airlines. Features of the Boeing 787 business class are expected to include:

• Sliding privacy doors for personal space

• 22” 4K OLED HD screens with Bluetooth audio streaming

• Fast, free WiFi

• Dual USB-A, dual USB-C outlets, and AC power

The emphasis is on elevating business class to unparalleled luxury, providing a premium experience for travellers without the need for a dedicated first class.

Riyadh Air Premium Economy: A Step Above

Douglas envisions Riyadh Air’s premium economy as a "business-minus" product, offering significant upgrades from standard economy. Passengers can expect:

• Generous reclining seats

• 16” screens with multiple USB-C power outlets

This cabin will cater to those seeking luxury at a more accessible price point.

Riyadh Air Economy Class

Economy travellers will also enjoy modern amenities, including 13.3” screens and dual USB-C ports, ensuring a comfortable and connected journey for all passengers.

Riyadh Air Routes and Destinations

Riyadh Air plans to launch operations with three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, connecting Riyadh to two major European capitals. In addition to these long-haul routes, the airline will serve popular regional destinations such as Jeddah, creating a balanced network of short- and long-haul flights.

The airline aims to add approximately two new destinations per month as it expands its fleet. By 2030, Riyadh Air plans to operate over 200 aircraft, connecting Riyadh to more than 100 global destinations. A Riyadh Air destinations map is expected to highlight a robust network spanning Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Riyadh Air Ticket Prices and Booking

While specific ticket prices have yet to be announced, Riyadh Air aims to position itself as a premium airline, offering competitive fares that reflect its luxurious services. Riyadh Air booking options will be integrated into its app and website, with user-friendly features designed to streamline the travel experience.

Riyadh Air's First Flight

The first Riyadh Air flight is anticipated in mid-2025, marking the beginning of a new era for Saudi aviation. This inaugural flight will showcase Riyadh Air’s cutting-edge fleet, world-class service, and commitment to excellence.

Will Riyadh Air Serve Alcohol?

Saudi Arabia’s strict prohibition of alcohol extends to its airlines, including Riyadh Air. CEO Tony Douglas has confirmed that the airline will adhere to the Kingdom’s current legislation, which bans alcohol. However, he noted that the airline would adapt to any future changes in Saudi law.

Innovations and Passenger Experience

Riyadh Air is heavily investing in technology to enhance passenger experience. Features expected in its first-class offerings include an advanced inflight entertainment system, a user-friendly Riyadh Air app, and seamless connectivity throughout the journey.
