What is the best month to go to Amsterdam?
I have to say probably summer but as it normally rains throughout the rest of the year, However if you want tulips then April. the autumn months can have the advantage of less tourists in town!
Amsterdam Top Tip
Travel in off-peak seasons: Prices are lower, and there are fewer tourists if you avoid summer months and major holidays.
Summer (June to August)
Pros: Warmer weather, long daylight hours, and many events and festivals (like the Amsterdam Pride and Grachtenfestival).
Cons: This is peak tourist season, meaning larger crowds, higher accommodation costs, and busy attractions.
Weather: The warmest season (15°C to 25°C / 59°F to 77°F), though it can be unpredictable with some rain.
Things to do in Amsterdam
Now if you want tulips! You could go here, but it wasn't for me, found out why HERE
Tulip fields Amsterdam
Don't fall for the tourist trap at Keukenhof, I mean, I might be slightly dramatic, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Sure, there were some tulips looking all fancy and a charming windmill plus a boat ride for the enthusiasts, giant clogs for the gram. If that tickles your fancy, then go for it, you may really enjoy it.
Where to stay in Amsterdam
Chun Amsterdam
Chun Café, a viral sensation in Amsterdam, is renowned for its Korean-inspired fluffy toasts, matcha, and coffee. With two locations—Berenstraat 8 in the vibrant Nine Streets district, and Spuistraat 122 near the city center—it's a must-visit for food enthusiasts. The Berenstraat café operates daily from 10:00 to 18:30, with the kitchen closing at 17:00, while the Spuistraat branch is open every day from 10:00 to 17:00. I queued up for arounf 45 minutes in the Amsterdam rain, was it worth it? YES!
How to get from the airport to city centre
How to Get from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to the City Centre
So, you’ve just landed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Welcome to the land of stroopwafels, canals, and more bikes than you’ve ever seen in your life! Now, let’s get you into the heart of the action—Amsterdam’s city centre. Luckily, getting there is a breeze, and I’ll walk you through your options.
By Train: The Fast and Budget-Friendly Option
The train is hands-down the easiest and fastest way to get to the city centre. Schiphol Airport has a train station right beneath the terminal, so it’s super convenient. Follow the yellow signs that say “Trains,” and you’ll be there in no time. Trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station run about every 10 minutes, and the journey takes only 15–20 minutes.
Travel Tip: Grab your ticket from the yellow NS ticket machines (they take cards but not always cash) or via the NS app. If you’re in a hurry, you can tap your contactless card at the gates for a seamless entry. Tickets cost around €5.50.

By Taxi or Rideshare: Door-to-Door Comfort
If you’re loaded with luggage or just want a smooth, door-to-door ride, a taxi is a solid option. Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals hall, but be warned—they’re not cheap! A ride to the city centre will set you back about €40–€50, depending on traffic.
Rideshare Tip: Uber is also an option and can sometimes be slightly cheaper than traditional taxis. Just make sure your phone is charged to call one!
By Bus: A Scenic and Budget Alternative
Feeling like a more leisurely ride? Bus 397 (the Amsterdam Airport Express) is your go-to. It departs from outside Schiphol Plaza every 10 minutes and takes about 30 minutes to reach the city centre, stopping at places like Museumplein and Leidseplein. Tickets cost around €6.50 and can be purchased at the bus stop or online. Plus, it’s a great way to sneak in some early sightseeing!
By Rental Bike: For the Adventurous (and Jet-Lagged)
Okay, I’m half-joking here, but yes, you can rent a bike at the airport and ride into the city. If you’re feeling bold, energetic, and ready to tackle Dutch bike lanes after a long flight, more power to you! Just make sure you have a map handy, and, of course, watch out for other cyclists.
You could also pop to the less touristy Rotterdam which is just 40 minutes away by train,
