Great capsule hotel concept just forget breakfast! My Hotel Review of City Hub Copenhagen

By Mr Plane Guy Travel Blogger, Flight, Travel Expert and chief Danish breakfast taster

During my recent city break in Copenhagen, I decided to opt for budget-friendly hotel and chose City Hub Copenhagen. While I respect those who enjoy hostels and I understand the appeal of hostels for socialising and solo travel, but I snore and wouldn’t put people through that! If I am honest a little spoilt when it comes to travel and I need affordable luxury!

CityHub offers a unique experience similar to a hostel but with individual soundproofed capsules and high end style gym bathrooms, co working and socialising spaces. Intrigued by the concept, I had to try it for myself. Here is my review of City Hub Copenhagen.

City Hub Copenhagen Reviews

Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 9.1 for a two-person trip.

How do I get to CityHub Copenhagen from the airport?

From Copenhagen airport, take metro 2 (direction Vanløse st) for 11 stops and get off at Frederiksberg. Transfer to metro 3 (direction København H) for one stop and alight at Frederiksberg Allè. Walk east, turn right onto Kingosgade, then left onto Vesterbrogade to find CityHub at 97B.

The Capsule

An indavidual capsule with a double bed, sound proofed and temeperature controlled, it also has a speaker and lighting system controlled from the City Hub app! When you check in for the hotel you choose a bottom or top capsule (I am not inserting any pun here no)

The Bathroom (Yes its shared and gender specific)

The Best Bits at City Hub Copenhagen

In the private capsule, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and you can control the temperature and lighting to your preference! I enjoyed the co-working space, which had a great atmosphere with fellow trendy travelers. Additionally, I appreciated the convenience of using the locker space for storing all my belongings after checking out. This way, I didn't have to carry my backpack around the city all day until my flight later in the day; I could simply pick it up on my way to the airport.

TOP TIP

To get around Copenhagen get the Hop on Hop Off bus it goes directly to all of the top attractions you must see and your one day ticket covers a 24 hour period so get it when in the afternoon and use if the second day morning and afternoon as well so it works out at great value.

Bad Bits at City Hub Copenhagen

If you are searching for a hotel that offers a great buffet breakfast, this hotel may not be the best option for you. Additionally, it can be challenging if you have to use the bathroom at night during your sleep.

Breakfast is served at City Hub Copenhagen (Well it wasn't really)

I opted to pay extra for breakfast, it just sets you up for the day of a full on sightseeing 20000 steps kind of day! I paid an extra £36! I was given a voucher to use a local cafe, a choice of two cafes one would just provide porridge, (erm £36 for porridge? I know Copenhagen is expensive but no hun) so I opted for the second option.

I sauntered along and they provided a breakfast I told them I was vegeterian (technically a flexitarian lactose intolerant) and they removed the danish bacon.

This was the offering.....

Dust, bon appétit!

Now the mega Karen in me had to speak to the manager, I was able to use the fancy City Hub app and contact a manager and explained my disappointment.

A lovely manager was so responsive and totally understood and refunded the full amount! I have noticed breakfast is only an extra £16 now on Booking.com so perhaps they have changed this offering!

So I have to say that this was really great service, they listened to the feedback and resolved it swiftly so I would still use City Hub again because of how they dealt with this! Hence why you will find my review of City Hub Rotterdam here and I hope to use City Hub's new capsule hotel in Iceland in a few months time!

Summary, so what was it like staying at this capsule hotel City Hub Copenhagen?

I must admit, I was really impressed by the concept of City Hub. While we all appreciate the luxury of a 5-star experience, life is all about finding a balance, and this budget-friendly option for a city break in Copenhagen is just perfect!

The shared living spaces are incredibly innovative and convenient, with every detail carefully thought out. You can help yourself to a Danish beer and grab a snack from the vending machine. The bathrooms are impeccably clean, reminiscent of those in high-end gyms.

Next time, I plan to pick up a Danish (just to clarify, I mean a croissant-style pastry, not a Danish person) to enjoy at the facilities while catching up on some blogger emails and write my hotel review of City Hub Copenhagen.
