My Unforgettable Encounter with Bruges, 5 reasons why I hated Bruges
By Honest Travel Blogger Mr Plane Guy
Bruges, Belgium – a city known for its picturesque canals, medieval architecture, and rich history. Many tourists flock to this charming destination and they certainly did when I visited!
However, my recent visit to Bruges left me with a mix of emotions and, dare I say, a few reasons why the experience was not entirely rosy.
The Good, the Bad, and the Smelly
1. The Aroma of Bruges: Ah, the distinct smell of urine lingering in the air, courtesy of the open-air urinals in the main square. Nothing quite prepares you for the pungent mix of horse manure and trash that wafts through the streets. A true sensory overload, but not in a good way!
This really takes the Pi$$
Tourists were Touristing!
2. Navigating the Tourist Crowds: Tourists had the audacity to tourist here, on a quiet Monday in May! Imagine a Christmas Market, or a summers day in the school holidays? Not for me! I actually suffered from road rage here, trying to walk. Is it just me?
Exciting Boat Trips (this is sarcasm BTW)
3. The most exciting offering in Bruges is a 15 minute boat trip, you are crammed into a boat like sardines in a can, knee to knee. Not a lot to look at here either, just a city with a lot of history, I guess I am now a really spoilt travel influencer hun. Sorry bout that!
Not as Cheap as Chips!
4. Very overpriced, 14 Euros for some Frites and Belgium Beer, robbed in broad daylight!
I also tried a waffle, with cream made from a squirty can, really?
CAN you believe it, in Belgium, not an ounce of chocolate on it!
No Horsing Around
5. One wrong move in Bruges and you could be mowed down by either one of the thousands of bikes that zoom past you or a horse and cart meandering the tight cobbled streets.
Whilst I didn't really enjoy my trip to Bruges, it didn't start of well due to getting on the Flexibus, more about this here.
Would I go back to Bruges? I would love to see the Christmas markets however I know it will be absolutely packed! Yes I would go back.

When is the best time to visit Bruges?
Clearly try and go in low season/shoulder season, mid week in February? Not around valentines though!
I think the Christmas markets here would be cute, but I would have to mentally prepare for the hoards of christmas Market shoppers, maybe I will report back on this?
Where should I stay in Bruges?
Here is a deal finder on Booking.com, your welcome!
I would also check Trivago as well as they search all other providers for you,
