If you’ve ever flown out of Gatwick’s South Terminal, you’ve likely wondered: is it worth splashing out on one of the airport lounges? Well, let’s dive into my visit to the No1 Lounge at London Gatwick and find out if it deserves a spot on your pre-flight checklist.

First Impressions: Location and Check-in

The No1 Lounge is conveniently located airside in Gatwick’s South Terminal. Once you’ve made it through security, head toward Pier 1. You’ll find the entrance nestled between In Motion electronic store and JD Sports on the upper level. Just follow the signs, take the corridor, and you’ll find yourself at the lounge reception.

Travel tip: I recommend pre-booking to secure your spot, especially during busy peak travel periods. Keep in mind that pre-booking may incur a small additional fee.

The lounge opens daily at 4:00 AM and operates until 9:00 PM, with the last entry allowed at 8:00 PM. Access is permitted up to three hours before your scheduled flight, so plan accordingly.

What’s Included in Your Visit?

Once inside, you’ll immediately notice the relaxed and upscale vibe. From cosy seating areas to chic décor, the No1 Lounge is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Gatwick’s departure hall. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Self-Service Buffet: A wide variety of delicious options. During my visit, I indulged in the breakfast buffet, normal full English extravaganza! Staff were happy to get veggie sausages pour moi as they do accommodate allergies and special dietary needs. Of course I had to use the pancake machine with some greek yogurt and honey. Now If I was really picky the hash browns didn't taste very fresh, I wanted that straight out of the deep fat fryer sensation.

  • During the day they serve items such as mac and cheese, curry, pasta, salad bar and of course lots of goodies for dessert (because life is about balance!)

  • Drinks Galore: Alcoholic beverages are available for passengers over 18, including a selection of wines and beers. While champagne comes at an additional cost, I opted for an Bucks Fizz, which hit the spot.

  • Other Amenities: Complimentary Wi-Fi, newspapers, and magazines. Although I could't seem to connect to the wifi.

My Experience

I found a quiet corner near the large windows overlooking the runway. The natural light flooding the space added to the airport vibe ambiance and the runways views here are quite a feature that you don't get in the terminal or indeed any of the other lounges at Gatwick!

The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that the buffet was regularly refreshed and the tables were promptly cleared. Everything was very tidy, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
