If you’re looking for an affordable way to hop across the Atlantic, Norse Atlantic Airways might just be the airline for you. As a budget-friendly long-haul carrier, Norse promises competitive fares while maintaining a solid in-flight experience. But does it live up to expectations? I flew Norse Atlantic Airways Economy from London to Oslo, and here’s my full review covering check-in, seating, inflight entertainment, and even the Bid for Upgrade option to enhance your journey.

Norse Atlantic Airways Economy Review

Who Are Norse Atlantic Airways?

Founded in February 2021, Norse Atlantic Airways emerged from the ashes of Norwegian Airlines’ long-haul operations. When Norwegian Airlines ceased its long-haul routes in January 2021, Norse secured leases for their Boeing 787 Dreamliners, launching its own transatlantic service by spring 2022.

Today, Norse operates a growing network of low-cost long-haul flights between Europe and the United States, offering an alternative to legacy carriers.

Where Does Norse Atlantic Airways Fly?

From London Gatwick (LGW):

  • New York (JFK)

  • Los Angeles (LAX)

  • Miami (MIA)

  • Orlando (MCO)

  • Cape Town (seasonal)

  • Bangkok (seasonal)

From Other European Cities:

  • Oslo (OSL) to New York, Miami, Bangkok

  • Berlin (BER) to New York, Miami

  • Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO), Athens (ATH) to New York, Los Angeles

  • Stockholm (ARN) to Bangkok

Norse Atlantic Airways Fare Types

Norse offers three economy fare options:

  • Light: Basic fare with a small under-seat bag only.

  • Classic: Adds a carry-on, a 23kg checked bag, and a meal.

  • Plus: Includes two checked bags, two meals, priority boarding, and more flexibility for flight changes.

If you’re travelling light and don’t need extras, the Light fare is a steal. However, if you prefer some comfort, Classic or Plus is worth considering.

My Norse Atlantic Airways Economy Experience

Check-In at London Gatwick

Before my flight, I received multiple emails prompting me to check-in online, but I couldn’t get it to work via the website or app. Upon arriving at Zone D in Gatwick South Terminal, I found a massive check-in queue. It looked chaotic, but surprisingly, I only waited about 10 minutes before reaching the counter.

One important note: Norse is extremely strict with luggage policies. Every passenger’s carry-on bag was checked for size and weight using a baggage gauge. If you exceed the allowance, be prepared to pay extra fees.

Fast Track Security at London Gatwick

Gatwick Airport you have the option to pay extra to go through a different security lane, the current charge is £6, this might be worth it if flying out of Gatwick at peak times (school holidays, weekend early morning.)

Seating & Comfort

Norse uses Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which means a quieter cabin, larger windows, and better humidity levels. Economy seats are arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration, and I sat in 22H.

  • Legroom: Standard 31-32 inches comfortable enough for my 6’1” (186cm) frame.

  • Seat Features: Each seat has an inflight entertainment screen and a USB port. Some aircraft also have power outlets, but my plane didn’t.

Bid for Upgrade: A Chance to Fly Premium

If you’d like extra space but don’t want to pay full price, Norse offers a Bid for Upgrade option. You can bid for:

  • Norse Premium: A wider seat with a 43” seat pitch, 12” recline, priority boarding, and two meals.

  • Extra Legroom in Economy

  • Adjacent Seat Reservation: For added privacy

Inflight Entertainment.

The entertainment selection was better than expected, with a mix of classic films, TV shows, and documentaries. However, no moving map was available, just a flight info screen.

Tip: Norse doesn’t provide free headphones, so bring your own or purchase onboard.

Onboard Food & Drinks

Norse operates a buy-on-board menu with hot meals, snacks, and drinks. I was tempted by the Thai green curry but ultimately decided to save my money for the destination.

If you’d rather plan ahead, pre-ordering a meal before your flight costs £25 (with lighter meals available for £17). Vegetarians and those with dietary needs should bring snacks, as options are limited.

Cabin Crew & Service

One standout feature of Norse was the professional and friendly cabin crew.

I've been using the Cabin Max Anode case for around a year and I have to say I love it! It's such good quality, light with good sturdy 360 degree wheels and this case is perfect for me for trips up to 7 days.

This cabin trolley bag is the perfect fit for Norse Atlantic Airways strict carry on rules! Norse Carry on bad measurements are 56 x 45 x 25 cm!
