Norse Atlantic Airways Makes Big Changes to Its London Gatwick Routes
If you're planning a trip this winter and were considering flying with Norse Atlantic Airways, you might want to check their updated route map. The airline has announced a major shake-up to its long-haul network from London Gatwick, which includes dropping one destination and adding an exciting new one.
Miami Route Gets the Axe, Bangkok Takes Its Place
From October 25, 2025, Norse Atlantic Airways will be cutting its Miami route, making way for a brand-new Bangkok service, which kicks off just a day later. This decision follows passenger load trends and the competitive landscape on the London-Miami route.
The Miami route was operated by Norse’s UK division, Norse Atlantic UK, using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 338 seats. While this route had its ups and downs, the airline seems to have decided that its future lies elsewhere, literally!
How Full Were the Flights?
Airlines closely monitor load factors (how full a plane is on average) to determine whether a route is worth keeping. Norse Atlantic Airways' Miami flights had some mixed results:

Why Did Norse Cut the Miami Route?
While Norse Atlantic Airways hasn’t officially stated the reason for dropping the London Gatwick–Miami service, there are a few clear factors that might have contributed to the decision.
Heavy Competition
Flying between London and Miami? You’ve got plenty of options. In addition to Norse, three major airlines already dominate the route:
British Airways – Daily flights with a massive Airbus A380-800.
American Airlines – Twice-daily service with a Boeing 777-300ER.
Virgin Atlantic – Twice-daily flights with a mix of Airbus A330-900 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
These airlines offer a mix of luxury, frequent service, and loyalty perks, making it tough for a budget airline like Norse Atlantic Airways to compete, especially when ticket prices weren’t enough to fill planes consistently.
Low Yields and Profitability
Norse’s focus has always been on low fares, which works well when planes are full. However, with some flights operating at under 50% capacity, profitability likely suffered. Even as occupancy improved, the airline may have decided that the revenue per seat wasn’t strong enough to justify keeping the route.
What About Norse Atlantic’s Other Miami Routes?
Miami isn’t just a London connection for Norse. The airline also operates flights from Miami to Berlin and Oslo, but according to airline schedules, these routes aren’t expected to return for winter 2025.
Additionally, Norse launched a Miami to Paris Charles de Gaulle route in December 2023, but it was suspended shortly afterward.
What’s Next for Norse Atlantic Airways?
While Miami is off the map for now, the airline is placing a big bet on Bangkok. This new route could be a fantastic addition, especially for budget-conscious travellers who want a long-haul deal to Thailand.
It’ll be interesting to see how Norse Atlantic Airways manages competition on this route, as Bangkok is already well-served by major airlines. However, with the right pricing and strategy, this could be a profitable move.
