Ryanair Set to Revolutionise Check-In with a Fully Digital Experience
By Flight Expert Mr Plane Guy
Ryanair is once again shaking up the airline industry, this time by eliminating traditional airport check-in desks. CEO Michael O'Leary announced plans to transition to a fully digital check-in process, moving passengers towards an app-based experience. This bold move aims to streamline operations and cut costs, making travel even more efficient for customers.
During a recent press event in Dublin, O'Leary shared his vision:
"We want to get rid of airport check-ins in the same way we got rid of bag [desks]. We are working towards from May 1 that everything will be done on the app; nothing will be done on paper anymore."
The shift to a completely app-based check-in process is not merely a trend; it represents a significant transformation in how passengers interact with the airline. O'Leary predicts a complete switch by next year, stating,
"It will probably be around April or May of next year, after Easter. I think from May next year it will be 100% the app."
This move aligns with broader digital trends across the travel industry, where convenience and efficiency and profitability are driven hard by the low cost big players!.
While some passengers may feel apprehensive about moving away from physical tickets, O'Leary reassures that the app is user-friendly and effective.
"I have been reluctant to go on the app because I am terrified to get on a flight without a piece of paper, but it works so well. It tells you your gate and if there is a delay."

The elimination of check-in desks in the future is just one of the many changes Ryanair has made in recent years to optimise operations. The airline is known for its cost-effective approach, and removing physical desks will further streamline processes and reduce overhead. Passengers will no longer face fees for airport check-ins, allowing for a more straightforward and budget-friendly experience.
Where will you check in a suitcase?
In addition to enhancing customer convenience, this move reflects a broader trend towards digitalisation in the airline industry. With many travelers increasingly reliant on smartphones, Ryanair’s decision to embrace this technology comes at a crucial time. The airline aims to cater to the preferences of modern traveler's, many of whom prefer to manage their travel plans through their mobile devices.
Will people still be able to bring a suitcase?
Ryanair’s decision to abolish airport check-in desks in the future in favour of a fully digital process marks a significant milestone in the evolution of air travel.
Ryanair's focus on efficiency, cost reduction, and customer convenience, they promises to make flying easier and more accessible for all while boosting Mr. O'Leary's wealth.
