Vienna Airport Lounge – The Best in the World?
By Travel Expert and top airport lounge champagne tester, Mr Plane Guy
If you’ve ever flown through Vienna International Airport, you might have asked yourself: is it worth paying for a lounge experience? Well before my 5 hour Wizz Air flight to Abu Dhabi, I had plenty of time to check out the Vienna Lounge at Terminal 1—and let me tell you, I can see why it is one of the best airport lounges in the world.

Opening hours: daily 04:30-22:00
First Impressions: Location and Check-in
The Vienna Lounge is located airside in Terminal 1 of Vienna Airport, after security. Follow the signs for the lounges, and you’ll find yourself at the entrance in no time. There’s also the SKY Lounge in Terminal 3, which offers a similar experience.
Passengers flying Business or First Class, certain frequent flyer members, and holders of select credit and membership cards get complimentary access. However, if you’re in Economy, you can still enjoy the lounge for a fee: €57 for Vienna Lounge (for up to 3 hours). I only paid £24 and it was worth every penny, I will show you how you can enter Airport Lounges worldwide like this one at a reduced fee!
Travel Tip: If you have Priority Pass, you can access the Vienna Lounge as part of your membership. This makes it a great deal for frequent travellers!
What’s Included in The Vienna Lounge Visit?
The moment I stepped inside, I knew this wasn’t just another generic airport lounge. The decor is stylish, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the airfield, giving the space a bright and premium feel. The parquet flooring and artwork from Klimt and Schiele (courtesy of Vienna’s Leopold Museum) make the lounge feel more like a boutique hotel lobby than an airport waiting area.
Here’s what you can expect:
Self-Service Buffet: An extensive spread of hot and cold food, including traditional Austrian dishes, a well-stocked salad bar, and plenty of desserts (because priorities!). The Viennese coffee house section serves beautifully baked cakes and strudels.
Drinks Galore: There’s a great selection of Austrian wines, beers, spirits, and even a Bloody Mary station!
Other Amenities:
Complimentary Wi-Fi (which actually works!)
Relaxing loungers with charging ports
Private booths with beds for a quick nap
Showers with Dyson hair dryers and fresh towels
A roof terrace
My Experience
I settled into a quiet corner, the staff were friendly and attentive, constantly refreshing the buffet and clearing tables promptly. I sampled some Austrian wine, tried the famous Wiener Schnitzel, and indulged in some Sachertorte for dessert.

How to Get from Vienna Airport to the City Centre

ÖBB Railjet – The national train service. Takes 15 minutes to Wien Hauptbahnhof (Vienna Central Station). Cost: €4.40 one-way.
S-Bahn (S7) – The budget-friendly option. Takes 25 minutes to the city. Cost: €4.40 one-way.
Vienna Airport Bus – Several routes to different parts of the city. Takes 20-45 minutes depending on your stop. Cost: €9 one-way.
Taxi / Uber – Takes 20-25 minutes depending on traffic. Cost: €36-50.
Travel Tip: If you’re staying near the airport, check out my review of the Moxy Hotel at Vienna Airport, which is a great option for a quick overnight stay.
The Verdict: Is The Vienna Lounge Worth a visit?
With its stylish design, premium food and drink selection, and impressive amenities, the Vienna Lounge at Vienna International Airport is easily one of the best airport lounges I’ve visited.
Can I Get Airport Lounge Access for Free?
Yes, there are ways to get into The Vienna Lounge (or other Airport lounges) without paying full price:
Credit Cards: Some premium credit cards like Amex Platinum and HSBC Premier World Elite offer lounge access as a perk. Priority Pass & LoungeKey: If you fly frequently, investing in a membership can save you money on lounge visits worldwide.

(yes, I do get a tiny kickback, so thank you for supporting my travel adventures!).
If you’re flying through Vienna Airport, I highly recommend stopping by, especially if you have Priority Pass or don’t mind paying €57 for a touch of pre-flight luxury. Compared to other lounges around the world, it’s clear why Vienna Lounge won the 2024 Priority Pass Excellence Award as the Best Airport Lounge in the World.
So, is Vienna Airport Lounge the best in the world? I’d say it’s definitely in the top tier especially if you love Austrian wine, and a sneaky Bloody Mary before your flight!
You can prebook or pay full price on entrance, but don’t worry if you’re not keen on paying full price, I’ve got you covered! Thanks to my friends at Priority Pass, you can snag a 30% discount on an annual membership. This brings the cost down to just £48 for the year, giving you access to over 1,400 lounges worldwide!
