Virgin Atlantic has unveiled an exciting expansion of its route network, adding new flights from London Heathrow to Riyadh, Toronto, Cancun, and Accra. These additions reflect the airline's strategy to enhance connectivity and meet growing passenger demand. Let’s dive into what these new routes mean for travellers.
Virgin Atlantic's New Destinations

London Heathrow to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Starting March 30, 2025, Virgin Atlantic will commence daily flights from London Heathrow to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking its inaugural entry into the Saudi market. This strategic move aligns with the growing trade relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia, projected to reach £30 billion by 2030.
Riyadh, the capital city, is undergoing rapid transformation, blending its rich cultural heritage with modern development. Travellers can expect to explore historical sites like the Masmak Fortress and the National Museum, alongside futuristic projects such as the King Salman Park.

WOW
London Heathrow to Toronto, Canada
From March 30, 2025, Virgin Atlantic will offer direct flights from London Heathrow to Toronto, reconnecting travellers with Canada's vibrant metropolis. (flights.virginatlantic.com) Toronto, known for its diverse culture and iconic landmarks like the CN Tower, provides a wide range of experiences for both leisure and business travelers.
This route reinstates Virgin Atlantic's presence in the Canadian market, having previously operated flights to Toronto before suspending the service in 2001. The airline's commitment to exceptional service ensures that travelers can look forward to a comfortable journey across the Atlantic.
London Heathrow to Cancun, Mexico
In Winter 2025, Virgin Atlantic is set to return to Mexico with three weekly flights from London Heathrow to Cancun.
Cancun, renowned for its pristine beaches and vibrant nightlife, is a gateway to the rich cultural heritage of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Virgin Atlantic previously operated flights to Cancun between 2012 and 2015 before withdrawing from the route. This return caters to the growing demand for leisure travel to Mexico, offering sun-seekers and adventure enthusiasts convenient access to this tropical paradise. Virgin Atlantic's return to Cancun underscores its dedication to meeting customer desires for diverse travel destinations.

London Heathrow to Accra, Ghana
Virgin Atlantic had initially planned to resume flights to Accra, Ghana, on May 1, 2025, but due to ongoing issues with the availability of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, the relaunch has been delayed to the Winter 2025 season, starting October 26, 2025. The airline last operated this route in 2013.
This decision reflects the airline's recognition of the strong demand from the Ghanaian diaspora in the UK and the growing economic ties between the two nations.
Accra, a bustling city on the Atlantic coast, offers travelers a blend of traditional culture and modern attractions. From the historic Osu Castle to the vibrant markets of Makola, Accra provides a rich tapestry of experiences for visitors.

Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class Experience
Having served as cabin crew on numerous Virgin Atlantic flights, including the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner route from London to Los Angeles, I can attest to the exceptional Upper Class experience. Passengers enjoy luxurious lie-flat seats, gourmet dining options, and access to exclusive lounges like the Clubhouse at London Heathrow's Terminal 3. The attention to detail and personalized service make Upper Class a preferred choice for discerning travelers.

Virgin Atlantic's strategic expansion to Riyadh, Toronto, Cancun, and Accra demonstrates its commitment to connecting passengers with diverse and dynamic destinations. As the aviation landscape evolves, passengers stand to benefit from increased options, innovative services, and the joy of exploring new horizons.
